Different Poses For Yoga

its origins.

What Is Yoga

The Sanskrit word 'Yoga' has two meaning, because it is derived
from two roots - one is 'yujir yoge' and other is 'yuj
samadhou'. A good, regular yoga practice will go far in

pain, and in fact, studies have shown that yoga is the number
one most effective exercise for relieving back pain. There are
many types of yoga, some with more emphasis on the physical part

Yoga and Meditation - Part III

While, meditation can take the consciousness beyond conscious,
sub conscious and unconscious states to super consciousness, the
question is how can one achieve that?

It can be achieved through meditation and the first step in the
process is to select an object to concentrate on, with the help
of your eyes, nose, ears, mouth and touch, as follows: * Eyes -
fix your gaze upon the selected object, * Mouth - recite a
mantra or sloka aloud, * Ears - listen to the mantra, as you say
it, or put on an audiotape of the mantra. * Furthermore, empty
the mind of all thoughts, and do not think of anything else,
only concentrate on the selected object as part of the mediation
process.

You can select any object to concentrate upon, the only
requirement being that it must impart tranquility and serenity
to the mind. For instance, you may select a picture of a
favourite deity and while concentrating on it, recite or listen
to a mantra dedicated to that particular deity. However, to
achieve success, one must ensure that the mind is only filled
with thoughts of the deity and nothing else.

I have heard a lot about yoga lately, and there are two reasons
people seem to like it. It is a great form of exercise, and it
is also supposed to be great for clearing your mind and learning
how to relax. I have thought about getting into yoga quite a few
times but I haven't quite gotten there yet. I'm still dreaming
of it though, and I do hope to start soon, and I hope to make it
something that I can do with my daughter. She may not understand
what it is, but I am hoping it will help her in the same way
that I hope it helps me.

What I have learned about yoga so far is that there is more to
it then just bending, stretching, and holding poses. If you do
want to start a program, you should search the Internet for
information about yoga. If you want to get your children
involved, you do have to keep certain safety issues in mind. As
I was learning about yoga for my daughter, I wrote an article on
it because I found a lot of information that perhaps not a lot
of people know.

and/or keep a person mentally alert and feeling glad to be alive
has a place in any anti-aging plan.

Even though my contention is certainly going to be that yoga can
produce all the effects mentioned, and maybe more, some people

candles, chanting to the tunes of other-worldly CD's, and
attempting to bend their bodies into positions they know they
cannot attain anyway!

There will be people interested in the aging process who are
genuinely willing to do a lot to create an effective anti-aging

address each possible consideration in such a short article
which is dedicated to the specific topic of yoga, I can say that
any exercise program or regular activity can produce many
similar physical results. Regularly challenging the mind, by

Establishing a Strong Foundation - Beginner Poses in Yoga

Yoga is a family of ancient spiritual practices originating in
India. It is one of the six schools of Hindu philosophy. In
India and across the World, Yoga is seen as a means to both
physical health and spiritual mastery. Outside India, Yoga has
become primarily associated with the practice of asanas or
postures of Hatha Yoga.

Like many things in life, yoga poses are cumulative. Beginner
poses provide a foundation for later yoga poses. Though the only
way to adequately learn a pose is from an instructor, although
some can be described as examples.

The base for all standing poses is the "Mountain Pose," which
strengthens your thighs and improves your posture. Stand with
your big toes touching and evenly distribute your weight
throughout your feet. Press your feet into the floor, while
tightening your thighs to raise them. Draw in your belly, tuck
in your tailbone, stack the shoulders above the pelvis, and
widen your collarbones. You might want to practice against a
wall to feel how the pose aligns.

The "Staff Pose" is the foundation for all seated poses and can
be thought of as a seated version of the Mountain Pose. This
pose strengthens legs and improves bodily alignment. Sit with
your legs straight in front of you, engage the thighs, and flex
your feet (your heels might leave the floor). Lengthen your
spine and stack your shoulders over your hips. You might want to
start while sitting on padding, and if your hamstrings are too
tight, you'll have to bend your knees some.
